Passing over the impressive Korinth Canal, we head to Mycenae, the matrix of the marvelous Mycenaean civilization.
The so called “abundant in gold” ancient city of Mycenae was layed on a hill, six miles northeast of the city of Argos, and it was at the times of King Agamemnon and the Trojan War, where it was the most important city of Greece. The period of Greek history between 1600 BC to about 1100 BC called “Mycenaean” reported in Mycenae.
The more important surviving today monuments are the two burial royal enclosures. The bulk of the surprising findings (most of them are gold and characterized for their wonderful art) derives from their excavation. Also amazing are the treasure of Atreus (vaulted tomb), the vaulted Tomb of Clytemnestra, the Lion Gate, the Royal Palace, the Temple, the North Gate and the Underground tank etc.
Most of the findings are exhibited in the new, modern, Mycenae Museum, causing the admiration of millions of visitors from all corners of the earth.
